Steelhead like turbulence.
Unlike you on a plane they actually like sitting in it.
Its true the substrate they prefer most is a rocky river bottom. This is because it creates turbulence in the fast current disturbing it and creating a a wider area of softer current. It is said that basketball size rocks on the bottom are perfect holding spots for these slabs of chrome.
So next time you are out working a run look for this type of river bottom and you will most likely find steelhead.
