Truth is that for all you trout anglers, the reel is more an aesthetic value than an absolute necessity for catching fish. I believe you should have a reel that is weighted properly for the rod you are throwing and is balanced well with the rod. I know I have not gotten into the backing on the reel the last time I hit the stream and hooked up, and to be honest there are very few trout (excluding steelhead) that I ever needed to really get on the reel. With that said, you don’t need a $200 reel to land fish, truthfully you could very easily land a fish with a $30 reel. The straight up dirty on the reel… Get a reel that handles well with your rod, it will be a joy to throw and doesn’t have to be such a pain in the pocket.
