Eggs in a basket!! True it doesn’t look like eggs in the basket, but the materials in the basket can produce hundreds of eggs. A simple egg pattern using a size 12-16 egg/scud/caddis hook, thread, and McFLYFOAM are all the tools you need to create this pattern. I like to use a 6/0 neutral color thread such as tan or white, or if I have a thread similar to the color of the material I am using I will go with that. These egg patterns prove extremely effective for steelhead and recently stocked trout. It’s not a bad idea to tie a few up to keep in your fly box, in fact you could tie up a dozen of these eggs in less than 20 minutes… yes the tie is that easy! Happy Easter from the CRO!
