*Crushed Reviews are serious reviews for those who seriously beat gear.  We don’t get paid by these companies and we don’t take free gear on a day or weekend trip and then review it.  We pay for it then we crush our gear… hard, beat it, use it and sometimes even abuse it before we write a review.  So you know this stuff is seriously tested.

We rate our crushed gear on a scale of 1-5.

1 = absolutely sucks, 2 = ehhh they could have done better and we are disappointed, 3 = average (average isn’t good enough for us), 4 = Good, we actually like it, 5 = Excellent

If you have read my review of Cabela’s Heated Socks, you know how much of a puss I am when it comes to cold weather.  Nothing, short of flash flooding, will keep us from fishing.  Family and friends think we are a little insane, but with proper layering and using the right gear makes fishing these conditions enjoyable.  That being said, I’m always looking for ways to improve my comfort while braving the elements, and  SIMMS provided yet another way to give me the upper hand on the bitch, better none as Mother Nature!
The SIMMS Coldweather Shirt
Redwood Plaid

Look:  The look of this shirt is what immediately caught my eye.  All too often, I (and I’m sure many of you) have to run to a meeting, dinner or some sort of social outing right from the stream.  This shirt solves the issue of looking like a bum during those cold fall, winter and spring months.  This shirt has very quickly become my favorite bar/dinner shirt for obvious reasons.   This is the perfect shirt for those times that you have an hour or two to throw some flies around before picking up your lady friend for dinner!

Black Olive Plaid
Features: This fleece-lined flannel is designed to keep you warm during the coldest of days.  It has off shoulder seams and a slight drop tail for added comfort while slinging flies.  For you minimalists out there, it even comes with two large pockets on the chest that can comfortably fit a fly box or two.  The Coldweather Shirt is, probably most importantly, fast-drying.  After safely releasing a fish back into the water, chances are your sleeves are wet.  The fast drying feature of this material is just one more way to keep you warm (It also allows you to go on that date or to that meeting without soaking wet sleeves!).  SIMMS pumps out great products with the Fly Fisher in mind, and this shirt does not disappoint!

Drop Tail

Fit: SIMMS provides a size chart including the measurements for the Chest, Neck, and Sleeve for each size.  If you are unsure of what size you need, simply bust out the tape measure and you can figure it out in a couple of minutes.

Comfort: Wearing the appropriate size accompanied with the SICK features of this shirt makes for a comfortable day during these cold months.  I have been able to shed several layers of my cold weather repertoire.  This shirt will keep you warm!

Price:  The Coldweather Shirt is priced at $99.95, which is steep but as always, you pay for what you get.  If you want, not only quality, but also products that are designed with the fly fisher in mind, and made in the USA it is worth the extra money.   This shirt will allow you to stay comfortable during the coldest of days, make you look good and is worth every penny!

The shirt comes in Black Olive Plaid and Redwood Plaid…
