Man’s Best Friend

I don’t even know how to begin this post. Tonight a very dear part of our family passed away…our dog.  My wife has brought many great things into my life. One of the greatest things she brought to me was our Boxer.  This dog has been there through it all. He was with us when we tied the knot and he was there to welcome all of our children to our home. He became for our kids what he was to us- a best friend. Like all dogs he showed unconditional love and was there  for me during some dark nights after I lost my youngest brother in a car accident and my mother to cancer. He beat cancer himself living well past what was expected yet his loss still cuts deep. He will be greatly missed.
I know this is a fly fishing blog and we are a fly fishing company, but I also know that so many of you out there cherish the friendship of a dog. These animals enhance our lives and give all they have for us.  I guess this is my way of writing an eulogy for the dog I love. Maybe it’s part of my grieving process. I don’t know.   Just remember to appreciate the dog or dogs in your life.
In honor of my four legged friend I want to share this: One of our good friends writes an awesome blog called get a rescue dog. Check it out here.  Our Boxer has cousins featured there.

  1. We lost our dog of 16 years this past Saturday, so I know what you're dealing with. They're family and they're such a huge part of your life when you really sit back and think about it.

It sounds like Butch was a great one and just like Lucy, our dog, they are both pretty well off right about now. I know it's tough to lose a family member, even the four-legged ones, but you just remember the good times and carry on.

All the best to you guys.
